Recall Supporters Politicize Veterans Memorial Park
[MADISON, WI]- Liberal activists affiliated with the recall effort have sought to demean local Veterans Memorial Park in their pursuit of a baseless recall against Governor Walker. In what is quickly becoming a lengthy series of unethical tactics to collect signatures, Wisconsin Democrats have stooped to a new low by covering the sign commemorating Veterans Memorial Park in Deforest.
"It is truly disheartening to me that anyone could condone such an atrocious act," said Larry Kutschma, state commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wisconsin. "Any connotation that detracts from the sacrifices of our veterans is deplorable; this act is an affront and a disgrace. There is a time and a place for politics, regardless of what side you are on, but it should be conducted with respect for the law, as well as basic human decency, especially with respect to those who fought and died for this great country."
Veterans Memorial Park was instituted in November of 2001 by veterans in conjunction with the local community to be “a place of contemplation, education, reflection and remembrance” of our troops, and the Veterans Memorial Park sign was donated at a dedication ceremony on Veterans Day, 2002.
