MADISON, Wis — If any uncertainty remains concerning the goals of the left-wing majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, those questions have been answered by the money trail.
The very same donors responsible for securing Justice Janet Protasiewicz her seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court are now shoveling cash into the Elias Law Group lawsuit attempting to throw out existing congressional maps.
From the Washington Examiner:
“A left-wing Wisconsin Supreme Court justice was endorsed on the campaign trail last year by activists that, around the same time, paid major sums to a Democratic law firm now pressing the court to order new congressional maps ahead of the 2024 election, records show.
“Republican lawmakers demanded the recusal last week of Badger State justice Janet Protasiewicz from taking up a redistricting motion due to her criticism of Wisconsin’s “rigged” maps while running in 2023. That heavily scrutinized effort to overhaul Wisconsin elections is being led by Democratic superlawyer Marc Elias, whose influential Elias Law Group raked in more than $680,000 combined for “legal services” in 2023 from left-wing groups that, in turn, rallied to support Protasiewicz, according to Federal Election Commission filings.”
Concerns that Protasiewicz’s candidacy was bought and paid for by out-of-state donors are no longer hypotheticals. The very same people who filled her campaign coffers are now bankrolling Elias’ lawsuit.
None of this should come as a surprise to anyone who has paid attention to Protasiewicz. Her entire campaign was predicated on her predetermined outcome favoring Democrats in their congressional maps. In short, Protasiewciz would follow the will of the donors and throw out every map they disliked, no arguments or legal proceedings required, if she received their support.
“Wisconsinites know a conflict of interest when they see one. They deserve a state Supreme Court that puts justice before politics. If Janet Protasiewicz fails to recuse herself from any case concerning congressional maps, it will confirm she was bought and paid for by liberal special interests, openly pre-judged this case, and will throw judicial ethics out the window on a whim for political allies.” —WisGOP Chairman Brian Schimming
