ICYMI: Lyerly Reprimanded by Minnesota Board of Medical Practice

MADISON, Wis. – In case you missed it, Democratic congressional candidate in Wisconsin’s 8th District Kristin Lyerly is facing scrutiny for her work as a physician in Minnesota.

It turns out that Lyerly’s incompetence not only resulted in an emergent C-section but also a reprimand from the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.

From Dan Bice, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

“In March 2020, Lylerly was reprimanded by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice, the agency that regulates doctors in Minnesota. The four-page report said an investigation by the board found that she ‘failed to timely deliver an infant in December 2018.’”

The Minnesota Board of Medical Practice report provides a damning account of Lyerly’s inadequate care for a pregnant patient. The Democratic candidate admitted to investigators that “late decelerations were present on the fetal heart rate tracing for about 30 minutes” before she elected to perform an emergency C-section.

Lyerly has since tried to downplay her reprimand by claiming that the criticism is rooted in nothing more than petty politics and the abortion debate. The reality is that the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice first received word of Lyerly’s negligence more than a year before she ran for office and lost to Republican State Representative John Macco. Furthermore, every expecting mother in America deserves to be treated with dignity and respect by their physicians, regardless of whether they are pro-life or pro-choice.

If only had Kristin Lyerly afforded her patient such decency and care.

“The Minnesota Board of Medical Practice found that Kristin Lyerly’s negligence was directly responsible for putting the life of an unborn child at risk and requiring the pregnant mother to undergo an emergent C-section to save her baby. No amount of downplaying or blame-deflecting by Lyerly can erase her reprimand or blatant disregard for the health of her patients.” —WisGOP Spokesperson Matt Fisher
