Anonymous donors, working with the nonprofit Milwaukee Crime Stoppers, have posted a $20,000 reward for information in the shooting death of well-known Riverwest resident Bernell Trammell.

Trammell, 60, was shot and killed about 12:30 p.m. July 23 outside his Riverwest office in the 900 block of East Wright Street.

Police have released photos of a man on a bicycle they say is a suspect in the shooting.

Witnesses said the suspect is a man in his 30s, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He was last seen riding a black bicycle and wearing a white and red baseball cap, a black face mask, a black and red long-sleeve shirt with white lettering on the front, light-colored pants, black socks and white shoes, police said.

“This was an execution,” Milwaukee police Capt. Craig Sarnow told WDJT-TV, which partners with Milwaukee Crime Stoppers to feature a crime of the week on its news programs.

“He walked up behind somebody, he was approximately six to eight feet away, approaches him from the back, and then fires several rounds in his direction, killing him and then just walking away. I mean, it was an execution-style homicide,” Sarnow said.

Sarnow said the man has a distinct outfit, bicycle and gait and urged anyone who knows him to come forward.

The swell of support grew after prominent conservatives, including Andrew Hitt, chair of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, called on federal prosecutors to investigate Trammell’s death over suspicion someone killed him over his politics.

Trammell supported President Donald Trump as well as Democratic state Sen. Lena Taylor and the Black Lives Matter movement and engaged passersby in conversation.

An anonymous donor from Wisconsin saw Hitt appear on Fox News pundit Laura Ingraham’s show last week and offered to donate $10,000 to fund a reward, Hitt said.

Then a group from out of state also came forward pledging $10,000. The donors then got connected with Crime Stoppers.

“I hope it does bring somebody forward that has some information on it,” Hitt said.
