Josh Kaul Looks the Other Way on Workplace Abuse, Discrimination Within DOJ

Kaul Refuses to Provide Answers to Victims and the Public

[Madison, WI] – Today, a startling report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel revealed that Josh Kaul, Wisconsin’s top prosecutor, has been refusing to take action against workplace discrimination and abuse within his own department. Tina Virgil, a respected employee who has served at the Department of Justice for nearly three decades, has come forward with her experiences of “abusive behavior” in Josh Kaul’s DOJ.

According to Virgil’s attorney Lester Pines, who has long represented Democrats like Tony Evers, Josh Kaul is aware of Virgil’s alarming experiences and has failed to take substantive action to rectify the dysfunction within his agency. Meanwhile, Kaul refuses to release the results of an investigation on sexual harassment and pay inequity within his department, after saying in 2017 that “the public also has a right to know what’s going on at the Capitol and the assurance that allegations are taken seriously and fully investigated.” What is Josh Kaul trying to hide?

“Not only does Josh Kaul, our state’s top prosecutor, refuse to stand up against discrimination and abuse within his own department, but he’s covering it up,” said Republican Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Anna Kelly. “Kaul should take his own advice from 2017 and give the public access to the investigation into his agency’s work environment instead of continuing to leave Wisconsinites and victims of his dysfunctional department in the dark.”
